ABOUT ENRIQUE
Enrique has lived in District 19 and worked as a public health professional there for over 25 years. Through his many years of community organizing and advocacy for positive change in District 19, over the years he has developed a deep knowledge of the community. Enrique has good rapport with the people – from those in need of help to elected officials. He is known as a man of great integrity and compassion, a good listener, a collaborator and a problem solver. He has worked the legislature as a lobbyist for public health initiatives and understands the legislative process.
Enrique and his wife, Karen, have been married for 32 years. He is a father and a grandfather. He and Karen raised their two children in the International District. Enrique was always active, as a member - and many years as president - of the Parent Teacher Organizations in the District 19 schools his children attended.
Enrique is a U.S. Navy Veteran. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a Master of Public Health degree. He is also bilingual, with Spanish as his first language. Enrique knows hard work. He has been a farm laborer, worked for a landscaping company, and worked fast food in college. Since 1993, he has worked in public service for non-profit organizations and government. He is currently the Executive Director of the Health Equity Council.
In his free time, Enrique enjoys spending time in the community with his family. He is also a musician, does arts and crafts, and is involved in competitive powerlifting.
